I scaled this down to fit in my toaster oven, the key is having an oven proof dish that fits in your toaster oven. This is a short cut to the flavors of a cabbage roll.
Ingredients:
- 1/4 pound lean ground beef (90/10)
- 1/4 large onion chopped
- 1 clove garlic chopped
- 1 small can tomato sauce (half normall size 6 oz.)
- 1/4 tsp. dried thyme
- pinch of dill weed
- pinch of ground sage
- 1/8 tsp. salt
- 1/8 tsp fresh ground pepper
- 1/2 cup cooked rice
- 1 piece bacon, cooked
- 1/4 head of shredded cabbage
- 1/4 cup mozzarella (grated)
- Optional: pinch of cayenne and red pepper flakes
Prep:
Brown hamburger with onion until no longer pink, add garlic. Then add the next 6 ingredients. Cook covered for about 5 minutes. Start oven to 375 F or 400 F degrees if using the toaster oven.
In a greased 9 X 6 (or 9 X 9) baking dish layer your cabbage and beef sauce. I did cabbage/sauce/cabbage/sauce. Cover with foil and bake for 45 minutes.
Remove foil and add cheese then cook for another 10 minutes, I like color on mine so I hit the broil at the end. Let rest for 5 minutes or longer.
This took about 1-1/2 hours total and cooking in the toaster oven uses 1/7th energy of a 220 volt US oven. Red wine or beer goes good with this. If your still breathing God is not done with you the best is yet to come.
